Welcome to another issue of Sunny Side Scribbles 🍳

A carefully curated infrequent newsletter with succinct ideas and resources relating to mental clarity, intentionality and curiosity. I welcome your thoughts in my inbox any time. To do so, simply reply back to this email! (I read every one! ) Thank you for being in my secret little corner of the internet.

When I was in high school you couldn’t pay me to care about history. This is how most of the classes were registered in my head. “In 18–Blah blah–34… sigh… this president… ugh” It’s truly a shock I made it out alive with both eyeballs and a full head of hair.

Like most collegiate caffeinated goblins, I had to take a history course. For whatever reason, Art History completed that requisite. I walked in with the only context being my painful history classes where I aced every test by asking myself what would a power-drunk horny man do if he had no creative outlet, no coping skills and all the resources in the world. I found, if I just related that back to Spain or New England or Catholicism in some way I would keep my name at shiny honor roll status.

As a child of every immigrant family does, I found my seat in the front of the class and was emotionally ready to put on my best active listening skills. My professor had bright red hair, huge Stuart Little-esque glasses and a disastrous amount of patterns draped on one comfortable shaped frame. She was captivating and surely the most squeaky history teacher I’ve ever witnessed.

When she lead her lectures, beyond every piece she showed us was an incredibly juicy and enduring story. She spoke of love driven wars, tormented men who found comfort in unique places, art forms born from limitations and so many beautiful cultures pouring everything they could into preserving how they loved the world they created. Seeing artwork this way was a time machine to look at what was happening in such a different time, it was hard to think I was walking on the same world as these people. Giving language to these stories became more than dates. History suddenly became invigorating. It became powerful. Lessons of love and the human experience replaced endless dates on a page. Rather than seeing a year like “1704”, I saw “Episode 10”. She shared her fire with all of us, and I was eager to extend my little wick and carry that light with me. Looking at history through the lens of art changed my entire life.

Everyone has the power to make someone fall in love with a lesson. And everything has the potential to be lovable if you frame it the right way. Want to love it? Make it irresistible. If you’re a marketer, don’t just push what you’re selling, reveal what genuinely excites you about it. No need to stretch the truth. Authenticity is magnetic.

“Sex sells”? Absolutely. But not just in the literal sense. Sex, in this context, is the romance of passion, the spark of seeing something as beautiful, interesting, and worth sharing. It’s about being open-hearted enough to let your fire show, so others feel it too.

With finger guns,
Jrnie!

P.S I'm currently working on adding a collection of highlighted articles on my website! At this point most of the articles are placeholders until I publish work I'm really proud of ahahah so be gentle with meeee! I've been working on this website intermittently the last couple of years and my goal for the 'article' section is to be a collection of pieces to showcase my writing style when I submit it to companies I dream to work with! If you have any questions about a specific part of my career, or if you would like me to explore a unique topic please let me know! There are a lot of obstacles I've been facing with the hosting platform, but I figured I should still share a little creative update to keep myself accountable! Have a lovely day!
